To develop partnerships with the community (families, caregivers, businesses, non-profit organizations, local government, experts in fields related to curriculum topics, etc.).
-Sept. 24th, 2019 -Family and Community Engagement - WakeForward presented by Kendra Allen and Susan Bock
Most Family and Community Engagement Resources, to include this one, seem to be more focused on Elementary Education. However, during this PD, I was able to connect with another School Library Media Coordinator who has a similar school set-up as ours. We were able to connect and brainstorm ideas as to how to increase family and community engagement with the Media Center virtually, since our students are not at a neighborhood based school, but instead come from all over Wake County. I will share the Family and Community Engagement Survey Questions for this focus area with the MTAC this year, along with the ideas that were generated through collaboration at this PD, in order to ensure that the end products are meaningful ways to increase our community engagement. Another success of this PD was that I learned the need to better communicate how our goals as SLMC's support the School Improvement Goals, especially when both are directly aligned. One of the main focus goals for the SIP Team at WYMLA this year is Family Engagement (1.06), which ties directly to the MTAC Goal of increasing Family and Community Engagement through the Media Center. The other main focus goal for SIP this year is Curriculum and Instructional Alignment (A2.04) - Instructional Teams develop standards-aligned units of instruction for each subject and grade level. The MTAC Goal of Budget & Resources aligns with this goal. Last year we created our 3 year Collection Development Plan and this year we will be creating the Technology Plan for WYMLA. These plans help us to better meet the needs of our teachers and students by providing curriculum based information resources and ensuring equitable access to all information and technology resources.
Objective 2
