-6th Grade Research Skills & Evaluating Sources of Information

6th Grade students learned how to evaluate resources using the CRAP Test and Lateral Reading.  We learned the importance behind looking beyond the content in front of you to determine where the information you are reading is coming from, who is behind it, and examining for bias.  We reviewed NCWiseOwl resources and discussed why many of these resources are more reliable than information found by searching on the web.

-7th/8th Grade Library Scavenger Hunt - These students did not have an introduction to the Media Center during their 6th/7th Grade school year due to the pandemic and virtual learning.  To ensure that all students know about the resources available to them and how to access them, Ms. Barkley provided instruction to these students this year through their Social Studies classes.

-Destiny Discover Collections created for 6th Science and Spanish courses to provide resources that can be accessed 24 hours.

-6th Grade EL - Students learned how to create citations and a Works Cited page.

-11th/12th EL Courses - Students learned advanced searching strategies using Boolean Search Terms and a refresher on how to access and use the databases for research, including how to utilize adaptive technologies.

-HS EL Curricular Novels (eBooks) Housed & Managed in MackinVIA - Students learned how to use adaptive technologies (highlighting, font adjustments (color/size), read aloud, bookmarking, etc.

The library media program includes resources that represent diverse characters, diverse perspectives, and non-dominant narratives.
