Career Development Plans
There is a new law! In addition to the courses required for promotion all Sophomores will be required to complete a Career Development Plan to be promoted to grade 11. The NC DPI website provides information here. Information on the HHS CDP roll out process is going to be posted below. See instructions here. Find the Major Clarity app in your Wake ID portal. You must complete these sections: Personality Assessment
Career Explorations (choose career path, add as favorite with star)
Academic Course Plan (enter courses 10-12)
ACP with Major Clarity (career plan - 3 pages with signature which has the pieces above in it)
My Career Plan section (complete all 5 tabs on educational goals, test scores, credentials, etc.)

Think quality not quantity and start early! Find a club, volunteer, LEAD, and get INVOLVED!
There are so many camps, leadership training programs, volunteer opportunities to help build your leadership skills and nurture an activity you are passionate about. It's important to get involved early. Your counselor will request your activities resume in September of your senior year. View the resources in this session to help!

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY)--2026 school nomination form will open 9.22.25 and close 10.31.25. More details are coming!
View the SY 24-25 video & nomination form. The HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth) Leadership program is a national program that is exclusive to sophomores. HHS can nominate one 10th grade student to attend a weekend seminar the summer after their 10th grade year. Students interested in fostering their leadership skills should to apply.
NC School of Science & Math programs (NCSSM)--4 opportunities to participate in NCSSM! Applications for residential and online admissions opens Oct. 15, 2025.

Residential The state of North Carolina offers students the opportunity to attend a publicly funded boarding school for their 11th and 12th grade years. This school is located in Durham, NC and offers a challenging and rigorous curriculum rich with diverse science and math course offerings. Interested students apply during their 10th grade year. The ONLINE program allows students to access courses and earn a certificate.
NCSSM INSPIRE is a one-week residential program that provides experiences in STEM research and in solving complex, real-world problems. To be eligible, students must live in NC and be a current 10th grader. Learn more at ncssm.edu/summer/inspire-program.
NCSSM CONNECT is a program providing distance education courses to eligible and accepted students across the state. This is a tuition-free program. Please contact your counselor for additional WCPSS requirements for non-WCPSS courses. These courses would not be included on your high school transcript.
NC Governor's School --Fall 2025; There will be an information session at the 10.1.25 pack day, second period with Mrs. Santos.
is a statewide 4-week summer residential program for students interested in studying an academic or artistic subject in depth. Open to all Juniors in the area of Academics and Arts and for 10th grade students interested in the Arts: Choral & Instrumental, Performing Arts, Dance, and Visual Arts only. If you are interested, please speak with your school counselor and be sure to reach out to the teacher of interest/content you plan to apply in for a recommendation.
All application NC Gov. School packets MUST include the completed application form, (2) recommendations (1 recommendation MUST be from a teacher of the content area applying for), and video, if applying in any of the Arts discipline areas*.

Carson Scholars Program--details about the school nomination process TBA for fall 2025. Students in grades 9-11 are eligible!

In 10th grade, all WCPSS students take the Pre-ACT. Students are encouraged to set up an ACT account, as they will take the ACT for FREE during the spring semester of their 11th grade year. It will also allow them to access free test prep materials through ACT and Kaplan.
