Dispatch and provide 9-1-1 services to residents and visitors of Wake County which includes twelve municipalities (Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Raleigh, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon).
Serves an area of approximately 860 square miles in Wake County.
Employs 129 personnel in 5 divisions (Operations, Administrative, Training, Information Technology, and the Communications Electronics Division).
The 9-1-1 Center receives approximately 860,000 calls a year.
Approximately 495,000 calls a year are dispatched to Police, Fire, Medical and after-hours services in Wake County.
What happens once I submit my application? The Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center will review all submitted applications. Based on job skills and competencies, qualified applicants are selected for computerized skills testing. Successful candidates will proceed through the hiring process consisting of a panel interview, complete background investigation, and physical and psychological evaluation.
What happens to my application if I am not selected for the position? Candidates will be notified of their status throughout the process. Any candidate not selected in the current hiring process may reapply when another position has opened within our department. How long does the hiring/selection process take? The average time for this process is approximately 2-3 months.

Call Taker I- Job duties include but are not limited to answering incoming emergency, non– emergency and administrative calls to the 9-1-1 center. Answer all incoming calls from the public as well as responders requesting all forms of emergency and non -emergency assistance.
Telecommunicator I- Job duties include answering incoming emergency, non– emergency and administrative calls to the 9-1-1 center. Telecommunicators also have radio responsibilities to include dispatching police, fire and EMS agencies to calls. They are responsible for keeping accurate status of all field units.
