Wake Forward goal:
MTAC members will facilitate professional development in an effort to educate PHMS staff and students on quality and ethical use of information, research strategies, copyright, and fair use.
The PHMS MTAC decided to continue focusing on Professional Learning during the 2019-2020 school year, as plans and goals were not completed during the previous school year. In addition, initial steps were taken toward exploring student information and technology standards to begin our work in Curriculum and Instruction, our secondary Wake Forward goal. Featured below are highlights from our year.
Highlights from monthly MTAC meetings were shared with staff by a different MTAC member each month via the Daily Flight Plan (DFP).
MTAC members reviewed the current NC Information and Technology Essential Standards and discussed which standards are already covered through their subject-area curriculum. This information will help in future planning as we explore Curriculum & Instruction in the 2020-2021 school year and fill in gaps for skills/standards not already covered.
PHMS Staff who attended the NCTIES conference in March 2019 shared their learning at various concurrent sessions during school-based staff development days.
Barb Vinal and Melanie Farrell, our WCPSS Digital Learning Coordinators, offered a drop-in session on OneDrive for PHMS staff.
Barb Vinal also consistently attended and participated in monthly MTAC meetings.
MTAC surveyed the staff about interest in attending the North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES) conference and received many responses. The committee decided to select five PHMS staff who had never attended the conference to encourage additional voices in the learning and teaching of technology to our staff and students.
Destiny Collections were created for a variety of professional learning topics. Printables of these resources were posted in the two 'copy rooms' to increase awareness. During spring 2020, digital Collections (featuring ebooks and audiobooks) were created for staff to access while schooling-at-home. Staff were encouraged to contact Kristen Ziller with additional resource list ideas and/or suggestions for topics/titles to purchase for the professional collection.
MTAC collaborated on a new PHMS Way We Do Business (WWDB) Resources & Research slideshow that teachers shared with students at the start of 2nd semester. Highlights included NC WiseOwl databases, using Google for research, correctly citing sources, and avoiding plagiarism.
Our last MTAC meeting of the school year was in February 2020 due to the Covid19 schooling-at-home season. Several steps scheduled for spring 2020 did not occur at that time and will be reviewed for implementation during the 2020-2021 school year. These include:
