distributed to staff via DFP for additional feedback
Determine our Focus Area:
Professional Learning
Using feedback from the school-based survey sent out to PHMS staff, the MTAC completed and submitted the official WakeForward survey.
Using the WakeForward survey as our guide, the committee determined our focus area to be Professional Learning for the 2018-2019 school year.
Hold Staff Meeting Technology Smackdowns
Technology Smackdowns were presented at each monthly staff meeting by a variety of staff.
Attend NCTIES 2019
A team of 8 staff members attended the 2019 North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES) annual conference, including our assistant principal, Bryan Tunstall.
Ms. Ziller and Mrs. Stern presented the concurrent session, Reading in the Digital World, which provided attendees with information on how the digital age has had a positive impact on reading.
The team shared what they learned during the April Tech Smackdown and plans to continue sharing information with the staff through professional development in 2019-2020.
Create PHMS Digital Resource Library
First step, was to determine teacher awareness of the NC Information and Technology Standards. An Information Skills survey was sent out to see what teachers are already covering in their classes.
A teacher resource storehouse with items that are aligned with each of the NC Technology and Information standards was created to house resources in a central location.
Showcase PHMS Professional Collection
The PHMS professional collection was showcased at the March staff meeting and again at a Teacher Tea held at the end of the month. Teachers explored print titles, organized by topic/subject, and were introduced to the digital collection of audio and ebooks.
Offer DLC Professional Learning Session
Barb Vinal and Melanie Farrell, our Digital Learning Coordinators (DLCs), provided staff development on current Google Updates for interested staff. Staff dropped in to the session during their planning period.
Looking ahead to 2019-2020
A survey was created and sent out to staff in April 2019 for their responses on how they want their Tech PD delivered in 19-20. MTAC will analyze results to see which standards are covered less consistently and additional resources and/or professional development will be offered for those areas.
MTAC will continue to add resources to the MTAC Google Team Drive pertaining to the 4 types of information and technology standards.
Molly Harnden, 8th grade Science and Social Studies teacher, will transition to the role of co-chair of MTAC.
