Letterland is our phonics and foundational literacy skills program. It is research based and emerges kids in a story based, multi-sensory approach to learning. In Kindergarten, students will learn
letterland character names
letter sounds, shapes, and names including the short and long vowels
how to build words - blend the letter sounds together
how to segment the sounds in words
high frequency or tricky words
onsets and rimes/word families with short vowels (ex: -at, -ap, -ag)
long vowels and silent magic e (ex: he, me, she, no, go, my, fly, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e)
Students will also be exposed to
consonant blends (ex: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, sc, sk, sp, st, sm, sn, sw)
vowel men out walking/vowel teams (ex: ai, ay, ea, ee, oa, ie, ue)
r controlled vowels (ex: ar, er, ir, or, ur)
