Letterland is our phonics and foundational literacy skills program. It is research based and emerges kids in a story based, multi-sensory approach to learning. In Kindergarten, students will learn

  • letterland character names

  • letter sounds, shapes, and names including the short and long vowels

  • how to build words - blend the letter sounds together

  • how to segment the sounds in words

  • high frequency or tricky words

  • onsets and rimes/word families with short vowels (ex: -at, -ap, -ag)

  • long vowels and silent magic e (ex: he, me, she, no, go, my, fly, a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e)

Students will also be exposed to

  • consonant blends (ex: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, sc, sk, sp, st, sm, sn, sw)

  • vowel men out walking/vowel teams (ex: ai, ay, ea, ee, oa, ie, ue)

  • r controlled vowels (ex: ar, er, ir, or, ur)
