Hello!

My name is Michelle Henderson and I am the theatre arts teacher for beginning, intermediate, proficient honors, and advanced honors (called the "Actor's Ensemble.) I am so thrilled to be a part of the Apex Friendship performing arts community. A little bit about myself: I was raised primarily in North Carolina, and was introduced to the world of theatre through both my parents. Inspired by my 8th grade theatre teacher, I joined the local community theatre my freshman year of high school when I realized there was no theatre program through my school. I proceeded to be a part of every community theatre production, whether as an actor or as a techie, for all 4 years of my high school career!

I chose Meredith College and their theatre department to continue my education, and realized very quickly that being at an all-women's school gave me the freedom to explore and become proficient in every area of theatre: from acting to technical management to designing for shows. I also was able to obtain a degree in theatre itself, and not just theatre education. This allowed me to become a well-rounded thespian and just added to my abilities as a theatre teacher!

This is the beginning of my 9th year of teaching. While never formerly teaching high school theatre before this year, I will now have taught theatre across elementary, middle, and high school public education! I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm and passion of the theatre arts with every student that walks through my door, and encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion within my classroom and the performing arts programs at AFHS.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my son, partner, and family, painting and crafting, watching theatre and movies, and sharing my baking abilities with anyone who is willing to help me eat them! Thank you for your interest in the theatre program and I look forward to a great year together!
