Write and practice the script first.
Sound: The microphone on the iPad works well if the room is small and quiet. Test a few shots in a busy room or hallway to make sure you can hear voices loud and clear.
Stability: Rest the iPad on a desk for stability, moving or bumping the iPad makes it difficult to watch.
Background: Look for a colorful background instead of a white hallway. OR use the Green Screen app.
Editing: use iMovie, Screencastify, ClipChamp
1. Write a script to use when filming - print it or put it in big font to read from laptop or other iPad.
2. Choose a background image or a few, to help you position yourself when filming the video. Store all background images in the photos on your chosen iPad. These can be photos, videos, or slides in google slides, saved as images ("RCMMS Weather Channel"). IF you need a background video from the web, do a screen record on the iPad, it is a pull down from the top right corner.
3. Film Video in CAMERA App
Set up the cameraman to take the video with room to only see the green screen as background.
To frame the actor, you will record using your iPad Camera (not into the GreenScreen app) and change input to VIDEO as you frame actor. VIDEO has different proportions from PHOTO.
Turn on all lights, open blinds, and use side lighting to remove shadows. Shadows make the Green Screen background images grainy.
If you need a microphone, plug it in and put it close to the actor/speakers to help remove background noise. (most projects won't use a microphone)
Scripts can be scrolled on a monitor, other ipad, or printed on paper.
We can cut off beginnings and endings, and plug two parts together, but it's hard to edit the middle of the video. Feel free to record three small clips to put together, and re-record if you have an error.
3. Edit in Camera App on iPad to trim it/beginning/end.
4. Edit film clips and length within camera/photos app. Make sure it has perfect sound. ***For longer clips with multiple edits, send via Lightning Cable to the MacBook and add Green Screen there.
**If you like video tutorials, watch this YouTube Video ... or this advanced green screen within green screen video.
6. Use an iPad with Green Screen by DoInk ($2.99 in app store) to merge the live action video and background onto a green screen. Make a note of your number and USE THE SAME iPad for your entire project.
7. Now open Green Screen App and choose "New Project"
8. Use + (plus) sign to add the green screen video you just made to the top row - choose, "video" and it will find the video in your camera
9. Use the + to add the background image to the file. You can choose several, just make sure you drag the time as needed.
10. Save project to iPad
11. Upload project to Google Drive (login to Google apps, + file, choose video) and then to Classroom or a Google Slides file. See this video below and this file.
Open Google Slides on a laptop or PC
Create New Slide by clicking on → +
Add Background Image and Text - use bold and color changes to make text show up
Leave room for Reporters to sit in middle or side (see above image)
Save as .jpg and send to iPad to use in GreenScreen App
