ACT / SAT / PSAT 

PSAT

The PSAT will be offered to 9th, 10th and 11th grade students at Cary High School on Tuesday, October 24th. This is an optional exam.

Please note: This year's exam will be digital (not paper/pencil). Students will need to bring their Chromebooks or a personal laptop in order to access Bluebook, the application for testing. Bluebook is on the school managed Chromebooks, but you will need to download the application from Collegeboard if you will be testing on a personal laptop, HERE. More information will be forthcoming.    


The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a standardized exam administered by the College Board. Participating in the PSAT provides an opportunity for students to take a preliminary SAT in preparation for the SAT, evaluate areas of strength, opt into the Student Search Services, compete for National Merit and other scholarship opportunities and gain access to personalized SAT/Khan Academy preparation materials. 


Please fill out the form to register for the exam. The exam fee is $15.30Juniors with a GPA of 4.375 or higher do not need to pay for the exam.  Payments can be paid online HERE. Students must pay for the exam to be fully registered.

The ACT and SAT are standardized exams used for college admissions, merit scholarships, and for other programs and opportunities.  Student can sign up for the ACT and SAT online through the corresponding websites.

This year, many ACT and SAT administrations have been cancelled due to the pandemic.  Many colleges and universities throughout the country, including the UNC system, have opted to be "test optional" this coming year.

Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet other qualifying conditions are eligible for up to 2 ACT and SAT free waivers as well as up to 4 college application fee waivers.  Students can contact their counselor for more information.


To receive a waiver, please provide a letter documenting you or your student receives free or reduced lunch.  If you do not have the letter issued by the Child Nutrition office, please fill out the PARENTAL PERMISSION RELEASE OF INFORMATION form and email it to Jacqueline Wade jwade7@wcpss.net (Student Services Guidance Technician).  Once received, she will submit the form to the Child Nutrition office for verification.  Students will be contacted when verification is complete and waivers will be issued.
