The PSAT will be administered on Thursday, October 9th at 7:25 AM. This year’s test will be online.
CHS students must plan to use their WCPSS-issued Chromebook.
MacBooks and other laptops should work, but non-WCPSS Chromebooks will NOT work.
CHS Students: if you do not have a WCPSS device, please consider requesting one as soon as possible.
Registration & Cost
Registration Form Deadline: Friday, September 19th
Cost: Freshmen & Sophomores: $16.56 Juniors: $15.12
Fee Waiver for Juniors: Cary High students with a weighted GPA of 4.40 or higher will have their test fee waived, as the PSAT serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Payment Information
Payment instructions will be emailed the week after registration closes.
The payment portal will be unavailable during the registration window.
Payment Deadline: Friday, October 3rd. Payment must be completed for students to sit for the PSAT.
Homeschool students will pay in person (exact change, please!!) at the Digital Readiness Check (more information below)
Readiness Check
The week before the test, students will be excused from class to complete a digital readiness check. Details will be sent to the email addresses provided on the registration form below.
Homeschool students: You must come to CHS on Thursday, October 2nd at 3:00 PM to complete this readiness check.
The readiness check must be completed on the same device students plan to use on test day.
Students cannot take the PSAT without completing this check.

The ACT and SAT are standardized exams used for college admissions, merit scholarships, and for other programs and opportunities. Student can sign up for the ACT and SAT online through the corresponding websites.

This year, many ACT and SAT administrations have been cancelled due to the pandemic. Many colleges and universities throughout the country, including the UNC system, have opted to be "test optional" this coming year.

Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch or meet other qualifying conditions are eligible for up to 2 ACT and SAT free waivers as well as up to 4 college application fee waivers. Students can contact their counselor for more information.
To receive a waiver, please provide a letter documenting you or your student receives free or reduced lunch. If you do not have the letter issued by the Child Nutrition office, please fill out the PARENTAL PERMISSION RELEASE OF INFORMATION form and email it to Chayne Johnson chaynejohnson@wcpss.net (Student Services Guidance Technician). Once received, she will submit the form to the Child Nutrition office for verification. Students will be contacted when verification is complete and waivers will be issued.
