Many of our High School volunteers said they would like to do a Service Project like this every year! Hopefully not due to a hurricane but to meet the needs of others in some way.
We had our first International Festival at AFHS and I represented my Mother's country of Ukraine. There was so much talent shared that night, I wish I could post all of the pics and videos, but too many to choose from! I am sure this will grow even more next year and I have met more students from Ukraine that will be at my table as well!
Mr. Hicks and I took a busload of Seniors to Wake Tech for the day!
Wake Tech has a beautiful campus and many amazing programs of study. They heard from many of them and they fed us lunch. Students can attend College for free while in High School on line or in class. College and Career Promise!
Helped Ms. Harrison plan and implement a Field trip to downtown Apex for her Fashion Merchandising Elective and some are in FCCLA. We went to several shops including Villa 19, (formerly My Girlfriend's Closet), Moon & Lola, Apex Outfitters, Sophie & Mollie's and of course coffee from Common Grounds!
Students were able to hear from professionals about their Careers as well as ask questions relating to projects they were working on in class.
Helped chaperone a field trip with Mr. Jackson, Entrepreneur Students & DECA went to The Frontier in RTP and heard pitches from 1 million cups, toured, and met entrepreneurs who use the space for their offices. One I met, Adam Silver, a Professional Public Speaker & Web Design Developer came to speak at our Career Cafe, and was a Guest Speaker at our Middle School Career Fair!

Some of our Business Alliance members who meet each month to support both schools. Left to right Lane Tomey, CDC I split the position with at AFHS, Max Fiffick, Joanne Helms, our Chair, and Shannon Flaherty with the Apex Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for supporting our schools!!
A Scientist and Parent at AFHS was our Guest Speaker for Career Cafe.
We had our first Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to honor our Volunteers from both schools! We had 32 Business Partners, PTSA, Community members, Guest Speakers, Mentors for students attend. They enjoyed food and dessert donations from 7 area restaurants and a grocery store. We had 11 businesses donate items for the door prize drawings, a 1 hour massage, $25 gift cards, a gift basket, and a beautiful water color. I mainly walked into restaurants and businesses to share that we wanted to honor our volunteers who have given to our schools all year. I gave them my card and asked for theirs and followed up with emails. The day of the event we had about 3 other staff members pick up food items, some were delivered. I also spent a few weeks picking up raffle items from area businesses. The decorations were from the local dollar store, and we had Caribbean music in the background for atmosphere with our theme. Our Principals from both schools came to share their appreciation to our Volunteers.
I truly believe that our Volunteers help keep our schools safe and healthy... they do so much all year!
It is the least we can do to show our Appreciation!
Went in through 8th gr Social Studies to reach all of our students to teach a Career lesson on CFNC.org, helped them register on the site and research careers. They added their career interests to their digital portfolio on the site so they can go back and tweek it anytime. Also gave a survey to find out what careers they want to hear from at our first annual Career Fair.
We had WNBA Professional Basketball player Azura Stevens from the Dallas Wings!
Our own Mr. Perrin, School Counselor spoke about the difference between Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists, and Mr. Gore spoke about Teaching and being an Educator.

On the right, Ms. Kellan Adkins from Glass Law Group was our Guest Speaker for Career Cafe. About 25 of our 8th graders learned about the career of a Paralegal, living overseas, and careers in Law.
Our end of the year Celebration was combined guys and girls, looking forward to this expanding next year and possibly becoming an after school tutoring program for Mentors to push into classrooms at the middle school from 2:30-3:00 & earn Service Hours.
We had 27 Guest Speakers at our Career Fair, two per classroom and learned about their careers, asked questions.
We had speakers from trades, professions, service professionals, and many different cultures, races and gender. Some were non traditional careers as well. This was our Sign Up sheet with google forms for each of three sessions students could choose.
