All Broughton Students are required to meet the minimum graduation requirements set forth by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Promotion to Grade 10 (Sophomore): 6 total credits, including English I, plus 2 credits in math, science, or social studies.
Promotion to Grade 11 (Junior): 12 total credits, including English II, plus 1 math, 1 science, and 1 social studies credit.
Promotion to Grade 12 (Senior): 18 total credits, including English III, and on track to meet all graduation requirements.
Failing your English class will always result in lack of promotion.
You will be retained in your current grade level if you do not pass your English course.
Promotion helps you stay on track to graduate from high school ON TIME. High School is designed to be completed in 4 years.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous, two-year pre-university curriculum for students aged 16–19 (typically 11th and 12th grade), recognized worldwide for developing critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and academic maturity.
Wake Tech’s Career & College Promise (CCP) is a tuition-free program for eligible North Carolina high school students to earn college credits (dual enrollment) toward a degree, diploma, or state certificate while still in high school. It allows students to explore over 40 academic programs, save on tuition, and jump-start their careers or college education.
Career Academies are smaller learning communities that focus on a career theme and are integrated into students’ studies, including their core curriculum courses.
WCPSS allows high school students (specifically freshmen and sophomores) to graduate in three years by meeting North Carolina's minimum 22-credit requirement. Enabled by NC House Bill 259, this option requires parental consent, a counselor meeting, and a signed waiver, with 3-year graduates potentially qualifying for a 4th-year scholarship.
