Our team is doing natural resources. At first we had no idea what to do to represent natural resources and then we came up with ideas and put them all together. So for example someone suggested a fish, other a tree, and other suggested a maple tree, and other the great lakes. These elements represent different resources that are well known around Canada. Natural resources are important in every country but not all countries are rich in them like Canada. It is something we think is quite unique about our great country. In Canada a well known resource is trees and vast forests, such as the pine tree, and mountains that can represent the Rockies. Then we have the 5 great lakes that are well known for fishing and provide freshwater. We chose these elements because we feel that they are the most well known around Canada.
We have decided to place the monument on the tallest mountain in Canada, Mt Logan! We thought this would be fitting for a monument all about Canada's natural resources and would be pretty neat for people to see when they scale this mountain!
We have decided to make our monument out of granite because it is incredibly strong and a natural material. The colour that we chose grey because it looks more like granite in the real world.
TinkerCad design
So we first started by making our platform/base that is basically a 3D Rectangular Prism. We then added our second element, a mountain which represents the Rockies which I guess we are sort of well known for. Also we have some mountainous regions near the North or most likely in the North. Are plate measures exactly 10 by 10 cm in TinkerCad. Our mountain measures 24 by 25 and 39 mm tall (all in mm). There are 2 other smaller mountains to sort of make a little range. We had some technical difficulties with the mountain being to tall and went off the screen but we managed to fix/shrink the mountain. Next step, we started making a maple tree which is a cylinder that is 11 mm with a cone for the pine tree is 23 mm, as the top half. Next we created a sun. now, to create the sun, we made a yellow sphere with a cylinder holding it up. After we made the sun, we created a rectangular hole in the monuments base to create a lake to represent the fresh water water’s in Canada as we have the most fresh water in the world. After we finished the lake, we typed out Canada 150 on the base of the monument to say that this monument was created on Canada’s 150th birthday. Than we had some technical difficulties with the group. We were debating if we should add the sun as part of the monument or take the sun out of the monument. We finally decided to take the sun out as it would fall over when it was printed. We had technical difficulties with a blocky world in tinkercad. We finally had it repaired into the regular 3D world. We had a difficulty with grouping it because we accidentally added something that we didn't want so we had to regroup it. Then when we grouped the monument together in tinkercad, the lake was all the way through the monument! Someone filled the lake half full and then grouped it again. Problem solved!
Our scale:
We decided that our scale will be for every millimeter in tinkercad, there will be a decametre in real life. We choose a smaller scale because we would still have to bring the whole monument to the top of the biggest mountain in Canada.
