The following procedures and policies include WCA standards and any additional areas needing clarity. All Business and Communications teachers use the procedures and policies below:
The Business and Communications Department takes a proactive stance on classroom procedures. Students are required to notify their teacher of any situation causing them to deviate from the stated due date.
Students who miss class time to participate in co-curricular activities are expected to obtain the assignments from Google Classroom or a classmate and come to the next class fully prepared.
Students will turn in the work on the due date. In the event that the student misses the assignment, it is their responsibility to check the Google Classroom and determine what they missed and ensure timely completion. Sickness or family issues are the only exceptions for an additional day. If you are sick or have a family issue, you are required to email your teacher the day of to get an extension.
Business and Communications courses do not administer final exams.
Students who miss class projects are expected to communicate a minimum of 2 days in advance to ensure the groups is aware of the absence. This communication should be documented via email or text, or in person with the teacher. Students who fail to properly collaborate will receive an automatic 5% deduction on their work.
When quizzes or tests are missed due to an absence, they are to be taken at the teacher’s convenience. The student is responsible to make the necessary arrangements.
Quizzes and tests must be taken within 5 business days of returning to school.
Retakes
Any quiz or test can be retaken. This is at the discretion of the student.
Students must retake quizzes and tests within 5 business days.
In order to retake a quiz, students must arrange a time at the teacher's convenience.
The retake grade will be the final grade in the grade book. This is regardless of which score is higher.
Students will receive a maximum of 50% off late work that is an assignment (classroom work, home work) & Assessment (Quizzes, Tests, Projects, Papers, Presentations).
Students will receive a 10 percent reduction per day for any assignments or assessments for the first five school days after the initial due date.
Additional points may be taken off during the grading of the assignment or assessment.
Assignments and assessments submitted late, but on the actual due date (a student in second hour turns in a paper after school, for example) will receive a 5% reduction.
If a student plagiarizes a writing assignment, he or she will rewrite the assignment and receive a maximum of 50% of whatever the grade would have been on the rewrite. For instance, if a student would have received an 88%, the posted grade will be a 44%.
