During the war of the 1990s, the US Air Force was in an arms race against its Soviet counterpart, in which each power developed advanced aircraft in order to ensure air superiority against the enemy.

The F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, introduced into service in 1995, came as a replacement for the well-known F-14 Tomcat, designed to do the same as its predecessor but in a better way, the F/A-18 program. It was highly capable across the entire mission spectrum: air superiority, fighter escort, reconnaissance, aerial refueling, close air support, air defense suppression, and day/night precision strike.
This fighter has variants that allow it to adapt to any war scenario, a variant of it is capable of taking off from aircraft carriers and is currently operated by the U.S. Air Force and many other allied countries, for example the United Kingdom and Spain.
