The screen on your chromebook is a very fragile piece of hardware. There is only a thin plastic layer protecting the LCD Crystals. Here are some tips to help protect your screen
Never pickup the chromebook by holding the screen. The pressure from your thumb will crack the screen
Be sure there are no objects such as pencils, pens, etc on the keyboard before closing the lid
Try not to stuff your chromebook in your backpack if it is tight. The pressure from books and other materials can crack the screen from the outside
Obviously, avoid dropping your chromebook
Sometimes, a chromebook will malfunction and will shut down unexpectedly. If this happens, try these steps:
Be sure the device is plugged in.
Hold down the "power" and "refresh" buttons together for 30 seconds. You may see the indicator light flash several times while holding these buttons down.
Release these 2 keys and then try to power the device on normally. It may take a few seconds for the chrome logo to appear.
If this does not work, then bring your chromebook down to the main office for service.
If your chromebook starts misbehaving, one thing that can help is removing and re-loading your profile on your chromebook.
Log out of your chromebook
From the login screen, you will see a dropdown triangle to the right of your username
Click that and select "Remove User"
After you confirm removing the user, the page will refresh and will prompt you to enter your email address
At some point, take a look at your chromebook and see if it looks a little "dingy". If it does, it might be time to give it a cleaning. Here are some tips and safety measures when cleaning your chromebook.
Clorox wipe - These can be used to safely wipe down the keyboard, trackpad and screen. HOWEVER, squeeze as much liquid out of the wipe as possible before placing it on the chromebook. Liquid can drip through the keyboard and cause liquid damage.
Windex - Glass cleaner can be used to wipe down your keyboard and screen. Spray the cleaner on a paper towel (NOT directly on the chromebook) and then wipe down the surfaces.
DO NOT USE and harsh cleaners, such as ones that have bleach in them. If you feel you need to disinfect your keyboard, some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel will work.
