At our first meeting, students went to two parts. For the first part, Garden Club Members learned about our two garden areas. The side garden, where we grow our veggies and the front garden where we grow flowers by the school sign. Members learned where these gardens are, how to care for them, and cleaned them up by pulling out dead plants and weeds.
Second, students learned about spider plants and devil's ivy. They learned that these plants can multiply, and be cut to grow more plants. They also learned that they can grow in water and that once the roots form they need to be transferred to soil to get nutrients. Students were able to take a vase, add water beads for decoration, pick a spider plant or devil's ivy, and place it in their vase to take home.
Supplies: garden gloves, yard waste bins, vases (small clear plastic from Amazon), water beads (premade), spider plants, and or devil's ivy.
