Past Projects & Ideas

Veggie Car Races

The West Allis Commuity Garden Club brought over a race car track for students to race veggie cars. They also brough with them bruised veggies, axels, and wheels for students to create their own veggie car. This was the favorite activity of the year!

Ornaments for the Zoo

Students created ornaments to hang at the trees in the Zoo building. The Zoological Society then lets you know when your group can come in to hang the ornamments. The leaders had to sign up the group in November.

Painting Reusable Veggie Collecting Bags

Some years, we had students paint the bags with paintbrushes and other years studetns have used wilted or destressed vegetables to make designs. The bag on the far right was made by stamping mushrooms and pepper rings. We purchased the bags off of Amazon and used paint from school. Also, we collected newspaper from parents and teachers to place between the front and back of the bag and under the bag while students painted.

Stepping Stones

Each year, students create their own stepping stone to take home. They start with a mix, add water, stir, and then pour the concrete into the molds. When the concrete is wet, student decorate their stone.

Fall Leaf Project

For this project, students first planned out what they wanted to design. Next, they went outside to collect different types of leaves and different colored leaves to design their project. Students then used glude and other items to create what they had originally planned out!

Decorating our School Sign

Each season, Garden Club members and vounteers help to deocorate and take care of the plants and flowers by the front school sign.

Recyleable Plant Pots

Students brought in recycled cans to paint. After the cans were dry, students added a couple of rocks, scooped in soil, and poked in a couple of seeds. We have used a varitey of can sizes for this project.
