Art
Artists do more than just paint pictures or sculpt with clay. Artists are curious individuals who are driven by the desire to create and a willingness to take chances. Artists see and think about the world in a unique way, which they share with others through the works they create. They are problem solvers, critical thinkers, and adapt to a changing world. You may think there are a select, special few with art talent...and then there are the rest. Wrong! The fact is you have art skills! By signing up for art, you will learn and discover talents you never thought you had. Art is for everyone.
What Art Course Should You Take?
Unless you are a junior or senior standing, Art Foundations is the prerequisite class for all level-one art courses. This year-long multi-media art course has been developed as an introduction to drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and design. Art Foundations students will explore and build on various two-dimensional and three-dimensional art skills.
As a junior or senior standing, you have the opportunity to bypass Art Foundations.
Students who successfully complete a level-two or advanced art course and obtain a West Art Teacher’s approval have the opportunity to take Studio Art or AP Studio Art their senior year.
