Wausau West offers a multi-dimensional program of activities and athletics for students of all ages, interests and ability levels. A summary of these programs is listed below.

Clubs and Activities
Archery Club: The purpose of this club is to allow students to learn, practice, and enjoy the sport of archery. The archery club will provide information about other archery programs in the area. Members may have the opportunity to compete in Club competitions or National Archery in the School Program (NASP) competitions.
Astronomy Club: An organization of students formed to learn, educate and inform the student body and the general public about astronomy through publications, planetarium shows and telescope outreach activities.
Dance United: The Dance United Club gives students a chance to creatively express themselves through the art of break-dancing. The club has seasoned veterans and brand new participants as well. Students of any skill level are welcome to attend, learn, and participate. ACTIVITY FEE: $5
DECA (an Association of Marketing Students): DECA is a co-curricular, student-centered organization specifically designed to provide activities that will motivate students to learn marketing competencies that will prepare them to become skilled, employable workers in marketing, management and entrepreneurship related careers. DECA opens a window of social opportunities while helping to build leadership skills. Students also have the opportunity to compete in marketing related careers areas at District, State, and National levels. Drama Club: The goal of the Drama Club is to:
Improve stage presence/skills through participation in various theater games, acting exercises, and guest speakers/demonstrations.
Enhance appreciation of theater arts by viewing productions, both live and recorded.
Have a voice in the planning of future drama events/productions at West.
Participate in fundraising and community service projects.
Watch for meeting times on the school message system. Anyone can participate.
Earth Club: No we don't just sit around and talk about recycling! Most of our activities involve having fun outdoors, learning about nature and leading conversation efforts at Wausau West. The idea is to educate and inspire an appreciation for the environment. Activities are designed to promote education, leadership, service to the school and community and have fun doing outdoor activities. Students have participated in service projects like river and school cleanup, tree planting, and school forest winter fun day. Outdoor adventure activities include: hiking, biking, tubng, and camping trips.

Esports Team: The Wausau West Esports Team competes with other high schools around the state as a part of the Wisconsin High School Esports Association (WIHSEA). The WIHSEA currently offers the following games to compete in: League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Come join our team and prove you’re the best! FCCLA: Family Career and Community Leaders of America is the only national career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life - planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication - necessary in the home and workplace. ACTIVITY FEE: $25 (if competing)
FCA: Fellowship of Christian Athletes promotes positive values to influence self-esteem with athletics. Bible study orientated with athletic emphasis.
FFA: TRAVEL! SCHOLARSHIP! CAREER SKILLS! LEADERSHIP! Discover the edge that FFA provides to 17,000 students in Wisconsin. FFA is a leadership organization for anyone interested in agriculture and making a difference. Do you like plants, animals, and the great outdoors - then you have an interest in agriculture! Our students can participate in travel opportunities like the National Convention in Louisville Kentucky, leadership workshops, develop skills in an agricultural career, and do a variety of community service projects. Some projects you might recognize are the Wisconsin River Clean Up or Food for America, where high school students teach fourth graders about agriculture in our state at a day on a local farm. Students also landscape in the community, work with other FFA chapters in the area and state and can participate in judging events like equine or forestry. Forensics Team: The Forensics Team is for students who want to improve their public speaking skills. Students attend competitions in which they are judged on the material they have prepared. Some categories students may compete in include play-acting, radio speaking, prose, poetry and speeches they have written. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
French Club: French Club promotes the French language and culture. Students travel to local elementary schools to provide fun activities to get students interested in learning languages. French Club also has social events which include movie nights, waffle and crepe parties. The Club also does fundraising to take a bus every spring to the Stevens Point Culture Fest. The year ends with a spectacular French dinner at a local restaurant.
French Forensics (Concours Oral): The Concours Oral is where students may choose to compete in one of six different French speaking categories. These categories include Poetry Reading, Extemporaneous Prose Reading, Extemporaneous Conversation, Théâtre de Chambre, Reader's Theatre or Music Performance. After competing at the regional level, students who receive scores of A or B may participate at the state level.
French National Honor Society: La Societe Honoraire de Francais was established through presidential order by the AATF in 1949. The aim of the organization is:
to stimulate interest in the study of French
to promote high standards of scholarship
to reward scholastic achievements
to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone culture and civilization
to promote and perpetuate international friendship
to reward efforts toward furthering solidarity in the French-speaking world
German Club: The German Club meets as often as needed to plan fundraisers and trips. The fundraisers consist of selling Advent calendars during the holiday season and selling German candy, “softy chews”. All money earned goes towards our trip to a restaurant where we are served German specialties, movie nights, t-shirts, etc.
HASA (Hmong American Student Association): HASA is a student-based club participating in volunteer opportunities within our own Hmong community, as well as participation in activities to grow connections and relationships with other Hmong students. ACTIVITY FEE $10
HOSA (Future Health Professionals): The purpose of HOSA is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skills competencies through a program of motivation, awareness, and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program. ACTIVITY FEE $107
International Club: The International Club is open to all students of all ethnic backgrounds. We participate in community service activities and attend events like the Festival of Nations in St. Paul. We serve to support all students in the global community. New members or interested visitors are welcome at any meeting.

Key Club International: Key Club is a student-run service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis. Meetings are held twice a month before and after school. Key Club members volunteer for a variety of projects, helping in the school, Wausau area, and global community. Key Club is active throughout the year and new members are always encouraged to join. National Organization Fee: $15
Letters of Love: The mission of Letters of Love is to provide emotional support to children battling serious illness through the creation of hand-crafted, heartfelt letters. We aim to build a community of love and kindness, empowering young people to change the world one card at a time.
Link Crew: Link Crew is a transition program that helps freshmen throughout the first year of their high school experience. Juniors and seniors, selected by West faculty, serve as Link Crew Leaders. As positive role models, Link Leaders guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful in high school.

Math Club: Students will participate in the Central Wisconsin Math League through UWSP in the category determined by their current math class: Geometry, Algebra II, or Advanced Math (anything beyond Algebra II). There are 3 contests throughout the year along with an awards banquet at the end of the year. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
Mock Trial: Are you interested in our legal system? Have you ever wondered what is it like to be an attorney or be a witness in a courtroom? Do you like to debate or perform in school concerts or plays? Here is your chance to compete against other area schools reenacting a civil or criminal case. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
National Honor Society: The National Honor Society is an invitation-only service organization open to 2nd semester Juniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.333. Students are invited based on academic merit. The student selection process begins in February. Students, who are invited to join, complete an application that is then reviewed by a faculty committee. Final selection is based on their leadership, service and character. The induction ceremony takes place in late April or early May.
Peytons Promise Leadership Group: This group encourages awareness of hunger problems in our community and works to keep our school pantry shelves filled for students in need.
Pop Concert: Pop Concert is an exciting, annual Wausau West Choir concert series in mid-May. These performances consist entirely of popular music from a variety of styles and decades, and feature the four choirs of Wausau West, plus numerous solo and small group acts organized by choir students. Three rounds of auditions are held. Choreography is also featured along with professional sound and lighting. Students must be in a choir in order to sing in Pop Concert, and must be a member of band or orchestra to play an instrument for Pop Concert.
Prom Committee: The Prom Dance Committee is a committee of junior and senior students that organize a formal dance and snacks for upperclassmen during the second semester. Both male and female students are encouraged to participate. This committee becomes active shortly after the Winter Gala Formal Dance and continues through the end of April. Underclassmen are invited to help set up the dance and volunteer to work at the event to help it run smoothly. Money raised through ticket sales is used to pay for the event.
Publications Staff/Lab (Yearbook/Magazine): The yearbook/magazine production is part of the class titled “Publications Laboratory.” Students sell advertising, design assigned pages, work with school photographers, as well as write and edit their own stories.
Raise Your Voice: Raise Your Voice is a student-led mental health advocacy club that focuses on hosting school-wide events/projects to raise awareness for mental health, creates a safe environment for students to advocate for mental health and provides resources and information pertaining to mental health for students and staff. This IS NOT a support group. All students are welcome!
Robotics Team: Students on the Robotics Team learn how to design, build and program a robot that meets different league specifications each year. The team travels to various weekend tournaments throughout the season to compete against other teams in the game challenge for that year. We are always looking for capable students who have skills and interest in engineering and programming, and who are able to make a time commitment to meet several times per week after school, and some weekends, throughout the year. The Vex Robotics Challenge is a global competition with regional, state and national championships. In our region, we compete against schools primarily in the Fox Valley, about an hour and a half away. Unlike other school clubs, the Robotics Team requires an application process. Students should demonstrate a dedicated interest in our activities and ideally have some advanced skills in engineering design. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
Science Olympiad: Science Olympiad is an interscholastic competition designed to increase student interest and enthusiasm in science. The Science Olympiad tournament consists of 20-25 team events. A team consists of up to 15 students plus alternates and assistants. Challenging and fun events motivate and confront students from all ability levels with both theoretical and practical science problems. The emphasis is on participation, interaction, learning and developing team spirit. Winning teams from the state competitions are invited to participate at the national competition, held at different sites around the country each year. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
Ski and Snowboard Club: The Wausau West Ski and Snowboard Club will provide a relatively affordable, non-competitive social opportunity for the students and staff of Wausau West High School to experience alpine skiing and snowboarding. NO ACTIVITY FEE - SKIIER RESPONSIBLE FOR LIFT TICKETS AND RENTAL EQUIPMENT IF NEEDED.
SkillsUSA: The SkillsUSA Club is open to all students interested in learning and practicing employment skills and leadership skills that will result in greater confidence. They will have the opportunity to compete in SkillsUSA championships at local, state, and national levels. They will have the chance to earn scholarships, awards, and honors and to make job contacts and develop networking skills. They will also gain recognition from peers, teachers, and community leaders and have opportunities to attend leadership conferences at the state and national level. They will have access to SkillsUSA employment resources and have the chance to travel, meet a variety of new people and develop meaningful friendships. ACTIVITY FEE: $25
Spanish Club: The Spanish Club is designed to celebrate and interact with the Spanish Culture. Activities include watching Spanish movies, having fiestas, making crafts and eating authentic Spanish food. Spanish Club is open to all students.
Student Council: Elected officers run the student body government. Activities include bi-weekly meetings, participation in decisions about school activities and attending various leadership camps and conferences. All students can participate without being on the council.
Warrior Power: The Warrior Power Club is open to all students interested in increasing strength, explosiveness, speed, agility, stability and body control. Warrior Power is designed for all athletes of all levels to improve overall athleticism.
