Now, I might not know you yet, but, after 25 years of teaching, I am still endlessly fascinated by my 8th graders. Every year, I get to know each one of you and help you find your path in the world. That is why you are my fabulous, wonderful darlings! I've taught here in Watertown since 2001, so this is my 20th year as part of the WMS community. Before Watertown, I taught middle school in San Antonio, TX, Denver, CO and Zagreb, Croatia. I lived in even more places as a child--Iowa, Ohio, Virginia and even Japan--but I mostly grew up in Dallas, Texas. My mom told me when I had to move away from my best friend in 2nd grade that I would be able to make friends no matter where I went and that lesson has stuck with me. I loved my life when I was moving all over the place, but I am so happy that I ended up in Watertown. Watertown has a hometown community feeling that I am so proud to be a part of. Our community is my beloved community.
My family is something else that brings me great joy. This is an especially cool year because my oldest daughter, Allison, is an 8th grader! I checked with her and she doesn’t mind if I tell you stories about her. She is dyslexic so she has taught me so much about how to learn when reading is tricky. My younger daughter, Sadie, is in 5th grade and she is always jumping and running around, never still. My husband is a physicist--you will be learning physics this year! We love to travel, eat good food and ski.
Not only do I love getting to know middle schoolers every year and the Watertown community, but I am a life long learner. I’m a super geek! I love museums and books, art and historical sites. This is also the first year we are teaching our new Civics class, so we will all be learning about our American Democracy together.
