YO!

I’m Mr. Skop (Like STOP but with a K) and I am THE Cluster 5 English teacher.

Don’t let the slight accent at times fool you, I was born in Lynn, MA and grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Following my mediocre high school years at St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA, I went to the University of Kentucky and somehow graduated with a degree in English. I was far from the perfect student and it took a long time for me to find my path in life.

Currently, I live in Melrose MA with my wife Raquel and my two children Victor (9) and Camila (3). I feel truly blessed as a father. My son is outgoing, athletic, and an avid reader, and my daughter is pure savage.

When not in school, our favorite pastime is to travel. My wife is originally from Spain so we spend most of the summer in Barcelona visiting with her family. When not traveling overseas, I enjoy golfing, snowboarding, Kentucky Basketball, and working on my home. Most recently, my son and I transformed our third-floor attic into a fantastic “Man Cave."

I teach with the belief that “Happy Kids Learn.” This simple concept was pointed out to me early in my career and it is absolutely my focus for teaching. My hope is that 8th grade is memorable, enjoyable, and a positive life change for every student at WMS.

If there are some words to live by that I could pass onto you, it would be something I heard Julian Edelman once say. “When someone tells you that you can’t do something, there’s only two options: prove ‘em right or prove ‘em wrong.” Let’s go out of our way to prove everyone wrong this year.
