I am Kathy Kiernan and I am the Special Education teacher in cluster six. I graduated from Westfield State and From Lesley University. I have worked in Watertown fo 30 years and am proud to teach in this community.
I grew up in Lexington, but have lived in Waltham for my adult life with my husband Matt who is a firefighter and my three kids Kaitlyn (20), Riley(18) and Colin. Kaitlyn and Riley go to Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and it was hard for me to drop two kids off at college recently, but exciting for them at the same time. I am continuing to do the college search with my son who is a senior, it has been challenging during these times. We have had a lot of family time in the last few months!!
When not in school, I like to spend time outside sitting on my patio or creating my own outdoor adventure. I love the beach!! Hearing the ocean, sitting in my beach chair, swimming, all make me happy. I also love to walk and try to do that each day with my two dogs Daisy and Rosie.
When I was in school, reading and writing did not come easy to me and I needed a lot of support from my family and teachers to help me get things accomplished. Mr. Murrey and Mr. Meachem were two English teachers I had in High School who are the reasons I am a teacher today. I became a teacher to help be that support and help students through those difficult times when learning. I believe that every person can learn and everyone has a strength. It’s my job as a teacher to figure out what that strength is and how it can be used to help you accomplish what you want in school.
I look forward to meeting you all and am excited for the year ahead!!
