Internship Requirements: Must be in 11th or 12 grade. May only take two internships during their academic career.
How to Find an Internship: Students are responsible for securing their placements in the community. The Career Development Coordinator or CTE Pathway teacher can assist with a recommendation for placement. Students must not be supervised by direct family members at their internship site.
Important Reminders: The internship program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a career area of their choice. There are three main components to the internship consisting of a project, portfolio, and work experience. All internships are unweighted, Pass/Fail, and one-credit courses. Interns must have a reliable form of transportation.
How to Apply/Register for an Internship: Students will need the email addresses of two teacher recommendations, the internship site supervisor, and a legal guardian to complete the internship application.

Course Description: This culminating course is for juniors and seniors who have earned at least two technical credits, one of which is a completer course, in one Career Cluster. The Advanced Studies course must augment the content of the completer course and prepare students for success in transitioning to postsecondary education and future careers. Students work under the guidance of a teacher with expertise in the content of the completer course in collaboration with community members, business representatives, and other school-based personnel. The four parts of the course include writing a research paper, producing a product, developing a portfolio, and delivering a presentation. Students demonstrate their abilities to use 21st century skills. Competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences. Advanced Studies courses are scheduled during a teacher’s course load, not during their planning. No Advanced Studies course block is guaranteed.
Prerequisite: Student must have completed Art I, II, III, & IV. Digital Portfolio review, statement of educational goals, WHS Studio Arts teacher recommendation, and Independent Study teacher’s approval.

Course Description: This independent study course is for juniors and seniors who have taken four courses in WHS Studio Arts classes: Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, and Art 4. The Independent Study course must augment the content of the Arts course and prepare students for success in transitioning to postsecondary education and future careers. Students work under the guidance of a teacher with expertise in the content and work in collaboration with the WHS community, local community members, business representatives, and other school-based personnel.
The six required parts of the course include:
1) Written statement of student’s art goals for the course, WHS career, and after graduation
2) Rigorous body of quality work completed - demonstrating artistic growth
3) Digital portfolio created and presented to classmates with Artist Statement
4) Weekly submission of sketchbook entries demonstrating the student’s practice, research, planning, and reflection as a tool to inform artwork, artistic style, skill mastery, and personal voice
5) Presentation of a portfolio to classmates and participation in at least one public display within WHS student Art Show(s)
6) Panel review of coursework (panel recommendation is required to move to a higher level class sequence or an additional independent study)
