Happy December!
Lititz El’s SEAD focus this month is Giving with Gratitude.
Although the official Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone, regularly practicing gratitude can inspire us to give to others with our time, talents, and kindness. And your children already have some excellent ideas about how to do just that!
On Friday, November 22, we had our first School Families event. Students colored pawprints and wrote ways that they could give back to our community. Here’s a picture of our pawprints. Ask your children what they wrote and be impressed with the ways they want to give!
In the midst of the busyness of the holiday season, do your best to ensure your children get enough sleep and healthy food. This helps them be ready to learn each day!
Wishing you all a joyous, peaceful, gratitude-filled December!

The hallways and classrooms at Lititz El are buzzing with energy and excitement for the holiday season. There’s so much to look forward to this time of year! That being said, please be mindful of sending your child to school with sick symptoms. We are seeing an increase in illnesses at this time. Germs spread very quickly within the school, so below are guidelines to help you determine whether or not it is appropriate for your student(s) to come to school. Keep in mind, children who don’t feel well are not able to learn or retain what is being taught. Their bodies will heal quicker if they are able to rest, hydrate, and limit the risk of re-infection.
Fever
If oral temperature is at or above 100 degrees, the student must remain home and be fever free for 24-hours without fever reducing medicine, and show improvement in symptoms, before returning to school.
Vomiting/Diarrhea:
Stay home and return only when symptom-free for 24 hours.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye):
When a student has a pink eye, especially in the white area of the eye, they will need to be evaluated by a healthcare provider. If the healthcare provider determines that no antibiotic drop is needed, they may return to school. If an antibiotic drop is required, they may return to school as instructed by the healthcare provider, typically 12-24 hours after drops have been initiated. Pink eye is highly contagious.
Colds:
Elementary children with thick or constant nasal drainage and/or frequent coughing should stay home. Despite our best efforts, very few school age children can effectively blow their noses, cover their mouths, and remember to wash their hands afterwards. These illnesses spread very quickly to other children.
Thank you for your help to keep Lititz El a healthy and happy place for our students!
Sincerely,
Sarah E. Sell, MSN-FNP, CSN
