Healthy Habits for a Great School Year

To help keep our classrooms safe, healthy, and ready for learning, we need your partnership in preventing the spread of everyday illnesses.

When to Keep Your Child Home 

Please perform a quick morning health check before sending your child to school. If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, keep them home to rest and recover:

Fever: A temperature of 100.0°F (37.8°C) or higher. Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning.

Vomiting or Diarrhea: Keep your child home until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours.

Persistent Cough or Congestion: A heavy, uncontrolled cough or severe nasal congestion that makes it difficult to participate in class.

Sore Throat: Especially if accompanied by a fever or swollen glands.

Unexplained Rash, Eye Drainage, or Earache: Any contagious skin condition or redness/discharge in the eyes (pink eye symptoms) needs evaluation by a doctor before returning.

Staying home when unwell gives your child the rest they need to bounce back faster while protecting vulnerable classmates and teachers from catching contagious bugs.

Dress for the Changing Fall Weather 

As the seasons change, our daily temperatures vary widely. Morning bus stops and drop-offs can be chilly, while afternoons often turn quite warm! Please help your child dress in layers—such as a t-shirt paired with a light jacket, sweater, or hoodie. This allows them to adjust comfortably whether they are sitting in the classroom, playing at outdoor recess, or heading home at the end of the day.
