Every student has strengths in different areas. Our staff works very hard to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. Students who display advanced ability in any content area may be recommended for a gifted services plan. Our curriculum coordinator collaborates with our teachers to offer these students additional opportunities in and outside the regular classroom.
Teachers of students who meet the required WCPS GT criteria, in grades K-3, may recommend the student be identified in the Primary Talent Pool. Students will be "flexibly grouped” throughout classes based on individual needs and abilities of the student. The classroom teacher provides these students differentiated services to explore and advance identified Primary Talent Pool areas.
Primary Talent Pool students are not formally identified GT until after further assessments and screenings at the end of 3rd grade.
Formal GT identification takes place at the end of 3rd grade, following district and state guidelines. Once a student is formally identified in grades 4-6th, our curriculum coordinator will offer additional opportunities to advance these students' learning opportunities.
WCPS offer advance placement in the district 212 Academy for formally identified GT students. Students are selected for this program through a formal application process offered to 5th and 6th grade GT students.
