RAISE - Striving for; Resilience, active citizens in our school community, increasingly Inspired, improving Self regulation and Enthusiasm for learning.
'RAISE' is a new, bespoke part of our curriculum offer and is designed for students who need support in learning how to cope with the demands of Key Stage 4 and daily school life. This option choice seeks to help students raise their achievements in their academic pursuits as well as help them to raise their own aspirations for themselves by providing opportunities for them to succeed and learn how to cope in times of challenge.
Instead of aiming for a single qualification, this option allows students to explore various subjects and work towards AQA unit awards in areas like First Aid, animal care, and community gardening. Unlike GCSEs, which culminate in a formal Year 11 exam, these certifications are achieved through hands-on activities and in-class assignments. Additionally, we have integrated the opportunity for students to participate in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. For more information on the DoE Award click here. This option emphasises three core character traits we believe are essential in preparing students for life beyond Warden Park:
Resilience
Responsibility
Kindness
This principal area will help students to cope with daily demands of school life and explore areas such as well being and mindfulness, aspiration and ambition as well as specific strategies they can use to help them improve their success in other subjects through study skills. Opportunities to build students resilience will feature heavily. There will be links in this aspect with Forest School and our new angling project.
This principal area will provide students with opportunities to develop their responsibility and will include areas such as First Aid, some volunteering work within school curriculum areas and team building activities. This will also involve an enrichment option where students have some control over what they learn.
Community involvement will feature as part of this area as we help students to become active participants in our society. Exploring elements of Citizenship Studies and a charity project.
This option choice is by invite only and parents of students will be contacted to arrange a suitable time to discuss with either Ms Fitzgerald, Ms Easton or a member of the pastoral team. Places are limited for this option choice.
Year 9: The first part of Year 9 will focus on personal growth including developing a sense of self and exploring identify and zones of self regulation. The second half of year 9 will focus on community and charity work under the key theme of helping others.
Year 10: Students will work towards courses/certifications which will be personalised to the individual. This could include first aid and health and nutrition.
