Synthesise
Synthesis means combining your current knowledge with new components or elements to form new ideas, or in other words, thinking critically about the ideas of several authors, and then combining them with your own thoughts.
Keeping a reading log may help with consolidating your ideas.
Presentation
In order to produce thorough research you need to:
- Answer the question
- Show an understanding of the topic and context
- Present the information in the most appropriate way
Remember that content is more important than the delivery method; so no matter which delivery method is used, the audience must be able to follow the thoughts and arguments logically.
In most cases the assignment details will set out the format for presenting the information in a particular way. Below are some examples of different type of formats that might be used.
- An essay
- A literature review or critique
- An annotated bibliography
- A video recording
- An audio recording or podcast
- A PowerPoint presentation
- A Mind Map
