Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations:
Students should have gained at least a Merit grade in both the Level 2 Algebra and Calculus Standards.
Course Content:
This course is designed for those interested in tertiary mathematics and its applications. Calculus can be taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts or Science. The ideas are particularly useful in engineering, the physical sciences, and economics and commerce. Students will extend their ability to solve problems in Differentiation, Integration, Algebra and Trigonometry.
Methods of Assessment:
The internal Achievement standard will be assessed during class time under test conditions. The three external Achievement standards will be assessed in the NCEA Exams at the end of Term 4.
Costs:
It is strongly recommended that students have a graphical calculator (Casio FX960GII or Casio FX960GIII) for this course (approximately $130).

Length of Course: Full year
Recommendations:
At least an Achieved grade in the Level 2 Probability Concepts (2.12) external assessment and the Level 2 Statistical Inference (2.9) internal assessment.
Course Content:
Data analysis and statistical literacy are key aspects of 21st-century workplaces and research. Statistical skills are utilised in many disciplines, including the social sciences, commerce, media, and law. In this course, we will use the statistical enquiry cycle to conduct a statistical experiment, analyse time series and investigate bivariate data. Statistical report writing and the critiquing of statistical reports are a major focus of this course. Other topics include probability problems, statistical inference and probability distributions, e.g. Normal distribution.
Methods of Assessment:
Three Achievement Standards are internally assessed. All internal standards involve writing a statistical report. This involves research and analysis in class and at home over a one-week period. The second semester will focus on the external standards and will be assessed at the end of Term 4 in the NCEA exams.
Costs:
It is strongly recommended that students have a graphical calculator (Casio FX960GII or Casio FX960GIII) for this course (approximately $130).
