Year 7 Performing Arts (7PER)

Course Overview:

We believe that when our tamariki discover their passion they will have the confidence to thrive and reach their full potential. Using acting, sound, and dance to inspire creative expression and engagement in social-emotional learning, concentration, self-regulation and joy to help shape brighter futures in our Waiheke community and beyond. We make art. The arts make us.

Year 7 classwork includes:

• Introduction to Drama/ Movement Techniques

• Improvisation - Group work and storytelling 

• Listening Skills - Music Appreciation 

• Instrument practise

Year 9 Performing Arts (9PER)

Course Overview:

Year 9 Classwork deepens skills explored in Yr 8 and aims to:

• Develop students’ skills of confidence, personal awareness, trust and co-operation

• Introduce students to basic performance techniques of movement, body, voice and improvisation via Theatre Sports

• Explore Dance/ Movement techniques via learning and creating choreographies

• Explore working with scripts to investigate storytelling, dialogue and characterization

• Improve listening skills (music appreciation)

• Practice instruments
