Piringākau
Piringākau, meaning close to the heart, provides bicultural extension within a whānau environment. Based on shared values of manaakitanga (respect), whānaungatanga (belonging) and tikanga (protocols), students access Māori enrichment through daily practices of karakia, waiata, pūrākau (traditional stories) and instructional te reo Māori. Piringākau students collaborate as tuakana / teina (seniors / juniors) to participate in experiences enhanced through a Māori cultural lens.
Piringākau provides cultural enrichment and leadership for Waiheke High School ākonga. In addition to striving for excellence, Piringākau students have the opportunity to experience a bicultural environment with tuakana teina responsibilities within a wider whānau.
