Literacy Activities

Reading books together is a great way to increase your student's language skills. When you read with your child, you expose him or her to new vocabulary, concepts, and ideas. Your student learns how to verbally process information and gains access to new ways to explain thoughts, problems, and events. See the links below for ideas about how to encourage your student's language development while reading.

Waco-McLennan County Libraries are open and providing curbside pickup.

Story Structure Worksheets by Mommy Speech Therapy are useful for practicing answering questions, sequencing, and retelling stories. These can be printed or viewed on a computer, tablet, or smart phone to help you discuss the story you just read. If your student is able to fill out these worksheets without any assistance, that's great! If not, you can provide assistance by offering answer choices, providing examples, or showing your student the page with the event you're asking about.
