What unchartered waters we have entered! COVID-19 has created a world that is brand new to each and every one of us. As a parent, you may be asking yourself what you can do at home to continue to support your child's speech and language development during this time of school closures due to the pandemic. The Waco ISD Speech and Language Therapy team has and continues to spend countless hours expanding their knowledge about distance/remote learning, reading articles on supporting speech and language development at home, gathering and creating resources for each individual student, making phone calls to check in with students and parents and adjust to not being able to see our students each and every week. This is a difficult time for everyone! We miss seeing your children's smiling faces each week! Your children are the reason we love our jobs so very much! Speech Language Pathologist thrive on interaction with others. Since we are unable to have in person interaction with our students we want to still provide any resources and support we can for you and your child.
Please know that we are thinking of each and every one of our students and their families. Our hope is that by creating this site we are providing resources, suggestions and strategies for parents and their children to use to support speech and language skills and development at home. If you have any questions regarding your child's speech and language or have requests for activities, tips for articulation, picture supports for communication.... whatever it may be, please reach out to us! We are here to answer your questions and to help support you and your child any way we can. ¡En qué aguas desconocidas hemos entrado! COVID-19 ha creado un mundo nuevo para todos y cada uno de nosostros. Como padre, es possible que se pregunte qué puede hacer en casa para continuar apoyando el desarrollo del habla y lenguaje de su hijo/hija durante este tiempo de cierre de escuelas debido a la pandemia. El equipo de terapia del habla y lenguaje de Waco ISD ha pasando innumerables horas ampliando su conocimiento sobre el aprendizaje a distancia/remoto, leyendo artículos sobre el apoyo al desarrollo del habla y el lenguaje en el hogar, reuniendo y creando recursos para cada estudiante individual, haciendo llamadas telefónicas para checar cómo están los estudiantes y sus padres y ajustándonos a no poder ver a nuestros estudiantes cada semana. ¡Sus hijos son la razón por la que amamos tanto nuestro trabajo! Los patólogos del habla y el lenguaje prosperan en la interacción con los demás. Dado que no podemos tener una interacción personal con su hijo/hija, aún queremos brindarle los recursos y el apoyo que podamos para usted y su hijo/hija.
Tenga en cuenta que estamos pensando en todos y cada uno de nuestros estudiantes y sus familias. Nuestra esperanza es que al crear este sitio proporcionemos recursos, sugerencias y estrategias para que los padres y sus hijos los utilicen para apoyar el desarrollo y las habilidades del habla y lenguaje en el hogar.
