BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PATHWAY

Course Title: Foundations of Business (P)

Course Description:  This introductory course surveys key topics in business, including Accounting, Economics, Management, Marketing, Banking, Business Law, and Finance. Projects and simulations are used throughout the course which can be tailored to compliment CTE pathways in agriculture, food services and hospitality, auto, construction, cabinetry and metal manufacturing as well as general business. Student have the option of joining Future Business of America (FBLA).

Course Description:  The program is not a simulation, but an actual business operation handling monies from student store operations. Classroom instruction is correlated to student store on-the-job-training. Students will be responsible for merchandising and stocking the student store, as well as semi-annual inventories. They will be involved in the decision process about what merchandise will be carried in the student store along with the quantity purchased and pricing. Students will balance the cash registers and prepare any miscellaneous deposits. The class is responsible for all accounts receivable and accounts payable for the student store.

Course Description:  This yearlong entry-level class provides an opportunity for student growth and development in an academy style classroom. The course focuses study on understanding the language of film in a real-world video studio while exposing students to the curriculum of their core classes in collaboration with site staff in 9th/10th grade academic classes. Introduction to Video provides a connection across the curriculum through the development of video that complements instruction in various classes throughout Redwood. 

Course Title: Advanced Filmmaking (P)

Course Description:  This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills necessary to achieve creative and critical independence in their knowledge, enjoyment, and production of film as an art form. The course involves the detailed study of films, sequences, and International and Hollywood styles of filmmaking from 1895 to present. The students will be able to view films critically, and analyze them for their composition, artistic technique, and narrative structure and gain an understanding of the film as an artistic genre. Students will also learn the overall structure of filmmaking, the nature of the relationships amongst the production team, and the need for discipline and set protocol. The students will be able to write critical essays for public viewing online dealing with the varying aspects of film aesthetics.  The end result of each unit is to produce meaningful film projects for presentation in multiple formats, including online.

Course Description:  This course extends the learning developed in the Introduction to Video course. In the Advanced Broadcasting course, students will learn the techniques and challenges of a real world TV studio (Ranger TV) while reinforcing the rigorous thinking and writing demands by the California Common Core State Standards. Students will expand their camera skills using DSLR cameras and lenses and broadcasting video cameras. Students will participate in developing new, sports, interest, event and other segments for the programming. Students will master Final Cut Pro® X, an industry standard editing application. The course stands in the Career Technology Education (CTE) pathways of the Arts & Entertainment Industry sector; as such, students develop executive skills that include time management, communication, teamwork, self-assessment, and self-direction. Students will be shooting outside activities such as sporting, school and community events. They will be required to participate in one or many parts of the broadcast each week.
