During the 2019-20 school year, VUSD in partnership with the California Health Collaborative, will provide Vaping Education and Training to VUSD secondary staff. Training will focus on strengthening the awareness of teachers and support around the effects of vaping, various vaping-related devices and paraphernalia and signs and symptoms of student-use on campus and in classrooms.
VUSD will be providing vaping prevention-education through a number of student assemblies at VUSD middle and high schools. Students will be inspired by powerful, educational messages aimed at students stopping, reducing and/or never engaging in substance-use.
VUSD contracts with local substance-counseling providers to provide substance prevention and intervention services to VUSD students (4th - 12th grades). Students are referred by school administration or support staff and receive up to 12 individual and/or group counseling sessions aimed at reducing student substance-use. Students' progress is assessed by the substance counselors and may be referred to outside support agencies for further treatment as needed.
