VUSD was selected to host Cultural Proficiency Certification Training. The training is presented by The Center for Leadership, Equity, and Research and The Center for Culturally Proficient Educational Practice. It was an honor to be selected to host the training, which was originally planned for a Fresno location. There will be approximately 50-75 people from the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley who will be attending ten days of training (some of the training are on Saturdays).

The team will aim to learn to use the tools of cultural proficiencyand facilitation to:

• Narrow access and education gap.
• Reduce and eliminate disproportionate outcomes amongst students.
• Build professional capital and capacity to grow and support systemic change.
• Plan and implement action within a tiered system of support.

The training is broken up into the following 3 phases:

Phase 1: Four Tools of Cultural Proficiency

October 16-18, 2019

• Use the tools to reflect on assumptions, values, policies, and practices that guide teaching, learning and leading for equitable learning opportunities and outcomes.

Phase 2: Inquiry & Equity Action Plan

November 15 & 16, December 6, 2020

• Working to identify data-informed inequities and how to address them.

Phase 3: Leading the Work with Expert Support

January 24 & 25, February 7 & 8, 2020

• Refresh facilitation skills to build our leadership capacity. Engage with expert coaching as the team implements actions and monitors progress.
