family Involvement
Introduction
Family involvement is critical to the success of El Diamante High School. Family members are encouraged to be active participants in their children's education through support at home, communication with teachers, participation on school committees and associations, and volunteering. Here are just a few ways that families can be involved with their child's education at El Diamante
School Site Council
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
Miner Foundation
Volunteering and chaperoning
Parent Nights
Back to School Night and Open House
View the El Diamante website for school information
Follow the School on Social Media
Families can also be involved at the District-level by participating in the District Advisory Council (DAC) or District English Learner Advisory Council (DELAC).
Home-School Communication
It is important to maintain open communication with your child's teacher. Some examples of important communication items include absences, health needs, academic concerns, and more. Teachers may be reached by email or phone (outside of class time). Our teachers use PowerSchool and Schoology.
Volunteering
There are three steps to become a volunteer at El Diamante. They are:
Complete a volunteer training & orientation. Link to District Volunteer Page.
Complete a volunteer application. These are available in English and Spanish from the front office and below (English only)
Pass final clearance. The school will verify safety and security clearances for all prospective volunteers, including Megan's law clearance and
principal approval.
Fingerprinting is encouraged for all parent volunteers, though it is not required for all volunteer positions. Family member volunteers who have not been fingerprinted may only be with students in the presence of a school staff member. Only family members who have been fingerprinted and fully cleared may be alone with a group of students.
Committees and Associations
For family members who want to participate in an even greater capacity, the following groups provide excellent ways to increase knowledge and involvement:
School Site Council (SSC) - The SSC consists of parents/guardians, teachers, classified staff, and the principal. Officers are elected for 2-year cycles and meet six (6) times each year. All SSC meetings are open to the public. The purpose of the SSC is to:
Serve in an advisory capacity with the School Site Plan and the Safe School Plan as aligned with the district's agreements and expectations
Allocate and monitor categorical funding
Review the effectiveness of programs and instruction
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) - The PTSA holds either board or association meetings each month. All meetings are public. The National PTSA mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. For more information about how to get involved in PTSA, click here.
Miner Foundation - is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization run by group of parent volunteers at El Diamante High School. Miner Foundation exists to help the school and its students in a variety of ways: school improvement projects, to club grants, to scholarships, and providing the various clubs and organizations on campus additional avenues to raise money. Your support of Miner Foundation directly benefits El Diamante High School and its students, not to mention its tax deductible. For more information about Miner Foundation, click here
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) - ELAC meets during the school year independently and in conjunction with the EDHS School Site Council (SSC) to insure the following:
A curriculum which reflects the diverse needs of all students
The promotion of activities which recognize and appreciate cultural diversity and the uniqueness of every student
The development of a school climate which offers equal opportunity and acceptance of all staff and students
Representatives to ELAC may be nominated by any El Diamante staff member, student or parent. Parent representatives must have a student who participates in the English Learner Program. Students who serve on the committee must participate in the English Language Development Program. Balloting for committee members will be done each fall during the yearly Back to School Night.
