Students and volunteers at one of the Real Money. Real World. simulation booths
The Real Money. Real World. program, offered to all ninth grade students, teaches youth how to create and stay within a budget and to use quantitative reasoning to determine what purchases would work within that budget. These skills are put to the test during the real-world simulation. The program is a grade appropriate, SOL correlated program that consists of a simulation of a one-month real-life scenario of someone in their twenties. A vast majority of the students said they were shocked at how expensive things are and how much of a paycheck goes to paying bills.
The event, which usually takes place in February or March, utilizes numerous community volunteers for all 13 booths during the simulation. The program reaches approximately 150 ninth grade students in Northampton County, including public, private and homeschool groups.
