Summer Ag Camp at the Barrier Islands Center
Each summer 4-H Agent Erin Morgan and Eastern Shore Soil & Water Environmental Educator Julie Head coordinate two agricultural day camps at the Barrier Islands Center (BIC) in Machipongo: a two-day half day camp for youth ages 5-8 and a two-day full day camp for youth ages 9-13. The camps are limited to 12 participants.
Youth learn about animals and get the opportunity to see cows, sheep and goats up close. They also learn about commodity crops, pollinators and participate in several hands-on learning activities such as bread making.
Registration and payment can be made through the BIC website when it becomes available.
Northampton 4-H and Eastern Shore Soil & Water host Adventures in Nature Camp, which is a two-day summer camp held at the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge in Cape Charles for youth ages 9-13. The cost is $15. Activities include hiking, arts & crafts, drawing, games, science activities, and more.
