Applied Systems Engineering:
System Dynamics and Systems
Thinking
The course is intended for people who wish to develop their system dynamics modeling skills to be applied to studying complex socio-technical systems. The course provides the conceptual and technical knowledge necessary to conceptualize dynamic policy problems, formulate appropriate simulation models, and use models to understand socio-technical systems and develop effective policy interventions. A principle focus of the course is the significance of information feedback and circular causality in the behavior of social systems. (ENGR 5104- Syllabus)
Management of Change, Innovation,
& Performance in Organizational
Systems
The focus of this course is on management, organizational improvement and change. This course emphasizes the role of management systems in organizational and process improvement approaches using a holistic systems perspective and engineering design approach. The course provides the opportunity for students to investigate recent and emerging concepts, principles, and practices. The course has a mix of theory and concepts, along with application and tools. (ISE 5015-Syllabus)
Global Issues in
Industrial Management
For better understanding of global issues that industrial managers face, we will explore: 1) several methods of analyzing environmental and industrial trends, and 2) several major current global challenges that organizations face. The goal is to provide tools and techniques of understanding political, social, environmental, and cultural dynamics that industrial managers should consider in order to success in the world economy. (ISE 4304- Syllabus)
Methodological Tools
for Public Policy
Introduction to research design, statistics, and computer usage in political science and public affairs with an emphasis on the interpretation of results. Students examine experimental and quasi-experimental and non-experimental research designs, summarize and present uni-variate distributions, perform bi-variate and multivariate analyses including simple cross-tabulations and multiple regression analysis, and learn to use a computer to perform statistical and data management operations. Required for public affairs majors.(Syllabus)
