Ran Xu is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the department of Industrial & Systems Engineering. Before joining Virginia Tech, he received his PhD in Measurement and Quantitative Methods from Michigan State University. His research interests include (1) Network Analysis. That includes the development of new network analysis methods, and application of network analysis methods to the study of social science topics. (2) Network Thinking.  That includes the study of how factors in a system are interrelated and why efforts to change the system often generate unintended consequences. Currently, he is working on a science policy project in which he analyzes research trends of doctoral recipients and the process of scientific knowledge production. [CV] Contact: ranxu@vt.edu
