Why do seemingly “smart” policies often fail in complex systems and result in unintended consequences? Why do we often fail learning from past experiences, and social problems repeat in cycles? How can we help future leaders better understand complex systems that they are surrounded by and have to make daily decisions? In SoDA (Social Dynamics & Analytics) lab, we explore complex social systems using extensive data and dynamic simulation models including system dynamics models, agent-based models, machine learning, network analysis, and various statistical approaches. Our mission is to serve the society by advancing knowledge for solving complex problems that matter, and to empower students with tools and techniques for seeing their environment as complex, interconnected systems.
