New Roundabout at the 4-way Stop

As part of the WCRR project, EllisDon, is proposing to replace the four-way stop intersection at VR Drive VR Blvd with a new, permanent roundabout. We understand construction is to begin in fall 2020 and is expected to be complete by early 2021. When complete, community entry will be via two roundabouts. The new roundabout will provide:

  1. A detour route enabling all traffic bound for the south side of the TCH to circle and head back towards the underpass during the period when the existing roundabout is removed and re-constructed closer to Fire Station #35, and

  2. The new roundabout island at the 4-way stop will provide a greatly improved location for re-installation of the VR community entry sign after completion of the WCRR.

A public Information Session hosted by AT and the City of Calgary to introduce the new roundabout concept to the community is planned. This open house will be now be delayed. Details will be provided when available.

The existing roundabout is to be removed and re-constructed in a position closer to the fire station. These schematics provide a conceptual view of the position and design of both the new and existing roundabouts.
