In late 2018 the City of Calgary’s Water Services advised the VRCA they would be installing the second of two oil-grit separators (OGS) in Valley Ridge as part of the City’s program to update all storm water ponds. An underground “filtering box”, oil-grit separator (OGS), is installed to capture sediment, debris and separate oil from the storm water runoff before it gets into the settling ponds. The OGS provides a much more convenient way (hydrovacing) to remove the sludge from the storm water before it ultimately enters the Bow River. In 2017, a similar, but larger OGS system was installed beneath Valley Creek Road to filter storm waters before entering the storm water pond on the 12th hole.
The project was completed in early January 2019. Follow-up remedial landscaping work will occur this spring to replace trees removed from the median and replant grass over the construction site. Final paving of the site may also occur.
The City’s Water Services Department has advised us that no OGS filter is required for the storm water pond located between the 14th and 15th fairways of the golf course, northeast of the 4-way stop.
