We have been asked about the possibility of a pedestrian bridge providing access to Melcor's new community of Greenwich, east of Stoney Trail. The recent announcement of a second Calgary Farmer's Market as part of the Greenwich development has provided further attention to this issue.
To the left is a schematic from the City of Calgary's Valley Ridge Area Structure Plan (ASP). We have added the dashed blue oval to highlight a conceptual connection across Stoney Trail contained in the ASP. This conceptual connection is also shown by the dashed green oval in the regional schematic below.
We asked representatives of Alberta Transportation (AT) for clarification regarding this concept earlier in 2019. AT has advised us that such a pedestrian overpass is not in the plans for the WCRR project. Further, AT has advised that 100% of the funding would need to come from the City of Calgary. We have advised Councillor Sutherland's office of this matter.
The regional schematic below, looks southwest. It is a screenshot taken from the City of Calgary's 3D video flyover of the Trans-Canada Corridor Study. It provides a future perspective of what the area may look like after development of a number of projects surrounding Valley Ridge. The schematic does not include the WCRR.
Situated just east of Stoney Trail and north of the TCH is a 66 acre parcel of undeveloped lands owned by Parkside Holdings Ltd., a mobile park operator. Parkside's lands are also located adjacent to and immediately west of Melcor's Greenwich development and the existing Greenwood/Greenbriar trailer park. We understand Parkside's plans are presently under review by the City of City however no immediate plans for development are on the horizon. The bright blue, dashed oval below right references the same conceptual link discussed above.
