Our college's East Zone Science and Technology (S&T) Centre was set up in 2002 as the East Zone Centre of Excellence (East Zone COE) for Science and Technology with the aim of being an incubator for students in the East Zone who aspire to be future scientists and technopreneurs.
Since our inception in 2002, we have worked with MOE HQ, academies, and many valued partners from the Institutes of Higher Learning and research institutes to foster greater learning and collaboration amongst East Zone schools as well as to provide opportunities for students and educators from over 60 schools in Singapore to develop their pursuits in the areas of science and technology.
With the growing challenges that our world faces, we see a greater impetus to be at the forefront of education, development and innovation to ensure that our students are prepared for the future. The disruptions posed by COVID-19 have also accelerated global trends and presented refreshed impetus to examine the COE operating model and the college’s S&T Centre for its relevance and strategic view of the evolving needs in teaching and learning and global trends. Science, technology and innovation remain as critical drivers to ensure Singapore’s resilience and economic growth beyond COVID-19.
The COE operating model for East Zone will cease with effect from 1 January 2022. Correspondingly, the East Zone S&T Centre will be renamed as ‘Victoria Junior College Science and Technology Centre’ to better reflect VJC’s commitment and strength as a key proponent of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
In line with our Centre’s refreshed vision of ‘Transforming minds through STEM for a better tomorrow’, the Centre is committed to promoting interest and learning in STEM through collaboration and innovation by facilitating greater holistic advocacy, understanding and application of STEM skills amongst students and educators.
