Transforming minds through STEM for a better tomorrow
To promote interest and learning in STEM through collaboration and innovation
Key Objectives
1. Exposing students to the wonders of STEM
2. Connecting teachers to the learning of STEM
3. Deepening STEM knowledge through research and innovation
The theme for our Centre’s work is on ‘Building a Sustainable Future’. With STEM education as our core, the VJC S&T Centre’s programmes will be broadly classified into three areas:
STEM Connect
This consists of a series of activities that show case varying strengths and connections between Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This includes the conduct of themed competitions such as the DSTA-DSO-VJC Robotics Challenge, with a focus on engineering design and prototyping solutions using 3D modelling technologies, Data Science Hackathon (jointly organised by VJC and Temasek Polytechnic), to promote mathematical thinking and technological skills and Project Inspire (jointly organised by VJC and Singapore Institute of Technology), to ideate and prototype STEM-enabled solutions to problems faced in the community.
STEM Outreach (STEM in Community)
This seeks to provide a space for students, STEM enthusiasts, STEM educators to be engaged by experts from institutes of higher learning and relevant STEM industry experts on latest developments and real-world applications of STEM in the various fields such as Health Care, Digital Technology, Cyber Security etc.
STEM REsearch
Grounded on scientific inquiry, students are provided with opportunities to engage in authentic scientific research and inquiry experiences. This will also serve as a platform for students to deepen their STEM knowledge through research and innovation.
Our Logo
Logo Design
The VJC S&T logo comprises key elements that represent the four disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The three interlocking rings resemble the atomic orbitals of an element. The three orbitals symbolise our CORE approach (Connect, Outreach and Research) undergirding the design of our centre’s programmes. The interlocking features also denotes the interdisciplinary nature of STEM integration in the design of our Centre’s key programmes.
The bubbling golden yellow liquid found within the rings symbolises life and sustainability. The bubble also represents zero, a key number in Mathematics.
The bottom left circuitry design reads VJC and represents the element of Technology.
Engineering is represented by the red gear, with red being another of our college colour.
