Meet-Ups: Thanks to the families who supported our Vista Public Library and Fall Festival October meet-ups. The Vista Public Library gathering included a sugar skull decorating activity, while the Fall Festival, presented by the Alta Vista staff and students, provided VVA students opportunities to play games, make crafts, and enjoy fall festivities. Check out the flyers for our upcoming November and December meet-ups coming soon.
First Trimester Progress Reports: This month marks the end of our first trimester August 16, 2023- November 3, 2023 (57 days). Parent conferences over the next couple of weeks will include a review of student progress reports. Students have been doing an incredible job in all core subject areas. Online learning can be challenging for all students; however, for elementary students, it takes a lot of motivation, self-discipline, and family support to be successful. Please be sure to commend your student for their efforts. There are some suggested tips below to help you continue to support your student in their learning.
Independent Reading: Remember to encourage your student to read independently for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. All students have access to the Sora library app that links to the San Diego County Public Library. Students have access to thousands of audio and e-books through the app. Here are some simple tips for supporting independent reading at home.
Questions/Concerns: If you have any questions or concerns that have not been answered in this newsletter or during parent meetings, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Ordonez using the contact information below.

How Can I Help My Student With Online Learning?
During online instruction, each student will need the support of a Learning Coach, typically the parent or guardian, who is present while the student is working at home. As students progress in their success with online learning there is an increase in independence.
The role of the Learning Coach includes but is not limited to:
Guide the student through the lessons, tools, and games as needed
Oversee assignments and help facilitate hands-on learning
Check for understanding and discuss concepts being taught
Keep the student on schedule and on pace
Ensure all components are done with fidelity
Communicate with the teacher as needed
Celebrate success
Edgenuity Excellence
These are just a few of the assignments our students have completed this month.
