Meet-Ups: Thanks to the families who supported our November Cooking and Crafting meet-up on Monday, November 13th, 2:00-3:00pm. Check out the flyer below for our upcoming meet-up on Monday, December 11, 2023, 2:00-3:00pm in the AVHS kitchen.
Lifetouch Photos: See the flyer below for information regarding Lifetouch school pictures on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
IAB Assessments: This month students will take the Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) in English Language Arts and math. IABs focus on smaller sets of targets than CSTs. They are intended to provide educators with the ability to check where students are at that moment and use results to determine the next steps for instruction.
Winter Break: Remember that winter break is December 21, 2023-January 9, 2024. Students return on January 10, 2024. See the VVA Elementary Calendar below for school holidays and non-student days.
Independent Reading: Remember to encourage your student to read independently for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. All students have access to the Sora library app that links to the San Diego County Public Library. Students have access to thousands of audio and e-books through the app. Here are some simple tips for supporting independent reading at home.
Questions/Concerns: If you have any questions or concerns that have not been answered in this newsletter or during parent meetings, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Ordonez using the contact information below.

How Can I Help My Student With Online Learning?
During online instruction, each student will need the support of a Learning Coach, typically the parent or guardian, who is present while the student is working at home. As students progress in their success with online learning there is an increase in independence.
The role of the Learning Coach includes but is not limited to:
Guide the student through the lessons, tools, and games as needed.
Oversee assignments and help facilitate hands-on learning.
Check for understanding and discuss concepts being taught.
Keep the student on schedule and on pace.
Ensure all components are done with fidelity.
Communicate with the teacher as needed.
Celebrate success🎉
